Citizenship
Volunteerism in IODE is best highlighted by the fact that our members raised $12,000,000.00 in the two World Wars to purchase hospitals, hospital ships, ambulances, bomber and fighter aircraft. Relief to prisoners of war and refugee camps, libraries and canteens for servicemen and thousands of volunteer hours were among the many IODE contributions made during both wars.
Operation Veteran
The Focus Recipient of our 2013 fall fundraiser was Operation Veteran, a privately funded program operating out of the Canadian War Museum that provides any Canadian Veteran visiting the museum with a free meal, every day of the week. Operation Veteran also provides educational programing that allows Canadian students to travel to Ottawa to participate in Remembrance Day ceremonies and provides traveling trunks filled with conflict specific artifacts and information. Called The Supply Line, these trunks are requested by teachers who want their students to have a "hands on" experience while they learn about the sacrifices made by our veterans. IODE Walter Baker Chapter was proud to be able to donate $5,000.00 to Operation Veteran's Supply Line, helping to ensure that our Canadian youth never forget those who paid the ultimate sacrifice for Canada. In 2014 our chapter was pleased do donate another $2,500.00 to this worthwhile program. |

Past Citizenship Projects:
Citizenship Court Receptions
As a Chapter, we enjoy promoting Canada and its citizens in every way possible. Until the program was discontinued by the Citizenship Courts, we took great pride in hosting Citizenship Court receptions to welcoming our ‘newest’ Canadians and to help may their special day more memorable.
